 E-Powering Business

The NCB is a key player and facilitator in shaping the digital economy by actvely promoting the growth of the ICT industry and entrepreneurship, stimulating the export market for ICT and ICT related services, encouraging the development of Business Outsourcing / Information Technology Enabled Services (BPO/ITES) and providing up to date information on trends and developments in ICT to local players.
The National Computer Board (NCB) has also setup a Computer Emergency Response Team of Mauritius (CERT-MU) and its mission is to provide information and assistance to the entire cyber community of Mauritius, in implementing proactive measures to reduce the risk(s) of information security incidents.

Infotech is the major annual ICT event organised in Mauritius by the NCB with a view to create awareness among the population on emerging technologies and supporting the growth of business opportunities in the ICT sector. It has earned its brand image and reputation since the past 14 years, as demonstrated by the huge visitor turnout and continuous trust of sponsors.

The main objectives of Infotech are:
• provide information on developments and achievements in the ICT sector in Mauritius and the region
• create awareness on emerging technologies
• demonstrate and promote local and regional ICT talents, expertise, know-how and export potential
• sensitise on the potential applications of ICT and choice of technology for effective business and individual solutions
• facilitate ICT trade and commercial exchanges
• position and promote Mauritius as the regional ICT hub
• offer a meeting platform for local ICT operators to develop collaboration and deals with potential regional / international technology partners and

ICT Industry Promotion
The NCB has developed an integrated approach for the promotion of Mauritius as a cyber island at regional and international levels, in coordination with other public and private organisations of the ICT sector. It supports the growth of the ICT industry by advising Government and implementing various strategies.

In view to promote Mauritius as a competing offshore location for IT and IT Enabled Services as well as provide market intelligence to the local IT community, the NCB has crafted an array of marketing tools and strategies which are:

IST Africa Initiative
IST-Africa is a collaborative Initiative between IIMC Ireland (Coordinator) and 19 African countries comprising of Ministries/departments and national agencies responsible for ICT.
Mauritius ICT Export Portal
The Mauritius ICT Export Portal is a focal point for local operators to tap other markets. The portal was launched In March 2012 with the aim to help local service providers to expand their export markets. The portal also provides resourceful information to international investors who are interested to do business in Mauritius in the ICT-BPO field.
ICT Expo
After the success of Infotech at the national level, the Ministry had expressed the wish to replicate this exhibition on a smaller model targeting  rural communities where the adoption of ICT may be lagging, thus the rationale for ICT Expo adopted was ‘Connecting Communities’.
The event is organised on a yearly basis and many people benefit from the various components which form part of ICT Expo.
